Boise Cycling

All things cycling-related in the Boise, Idaho area.

In a little over a month, I have a race with a 1/4 Bogus TT, and I want to improve my hill climbing. Right now, I'm a decent on hills, but not strong enough to compete with some of the people in my age group.

for the past couple of months, I have used Quail Ridge as my main training hill. That hill is great, but is only about 1 mile in length and no more than a 15% grade. Does anyone know of any hills similar to this hill but longer that they would reccomend?

Also, anyone know of a nice steep hill?(15-20%)

You don't necessarily need anything that steep to train on to get good at climbing hills. Table rock, Bogus, dump loop... All those are plenty steep enough. The main thing is doing proper intervals on the hills and in general. The first part of bogus is only 6 or 7 percent.

OK, thanks for the clarification. I'll stay off some of the steeper hills and stick to the some of the ones you mentioned.

I do live up a very steep hill, but I can't avoid that.

It's not a bad thing to train on steep climbs but it isn't absolutely necessary to do all of your training on the super steep climbs.

I understand what you're saying, just mix it up.

Thanks for the help.
