Another small step forward

From : Patrick Riceci

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

"Share the Road" information revised in Idaho's Driver Manual

BOISE - The new Idaho Driver's Manual will include improved information about bicyclists and motorists safely sharing the highway when it is released later this summer, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced.

Enhancement of the "Share the Road" chapter in the Idaho Driver's Manual is the result of collaboration among state Sen. Elliot Werk, statewide bicycle advocates and ITD.

"Significant effort was placed in garnering input from bicycling advocates from around the state," said ITD's Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator Mark McNeese. "We appreciated the contribution from these individuals and the manual will be greatly improved because of their commitment to improving safety on Idaho's roadways."

Because the driver's manual instructs motorists, not bicyclists, ITD reminds bicyclists the transportation department distributes free copies of a 50-page bicycle safety publication titled "Idaho Bicycling Street Smarts."
The publication instructs bicyclists on how to share the road safely with motorists in a variety of situations. The book is available throughout the state at local bike shops, county driver's license offices and local AAA offices.

The improved text can be viewed at www.mobilityidaho.org. Click "IMAP Vision and Structure Resources," then click "Bicyclists: A New Section for the Idaho Driver's Manual."

Drawing to be July 16 at the Thursday Night Run ?
THE SPIRIT IS A VERY POWERFUL THING
Original painted in 1971 by Linda Ring (Whitney) This poster is a piece of history duplicated on quality, canvas stock paper that gives the look and feel of the original painting.
?
PAINTING HISTORY
"I met Steve through Sam Ring, my husband at the time, who was among Steve's circle of friends and running buddies. I was painting a good deal then and Steve's positive energy, sweetness and compelling presence inspired me to do a portrait of him. He was a hero to a great many people and I wanted to do a sort of iconic composite of his accomplishments that would lend some insight to his personality, as well as be visually interesting.

I remember him being somewhat troubled by the "hero" and "larger than life" connotation of the painting. I've come to understand that response much better than I did then." -Linda Ring (Whitney) _________________________________

Team Therapeutic Associates-Dobbiaco Board of Directors _________________________________ COACHES NEEDED FOR GIRLS ON THE RUN IDAHO Girls on the Run Idaho is seeking volunteer coaches at sites throughout the Treasure Valley to run its ten week Fall program.? Fall sites are forming now and will be in session from September until November. We offer the program in schools and fitness centers in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Nampa, Star, Middleton and Caldwell and we are looking for positive women interested in mentoring girls and "preparing them for a lifetime of high self-esteem and healthy living".? We are especially looking for bilingual coaches for new sites in the Caldwell area.?
?
Coaches do not have to be runners themselves; the only requirement is that they be enthusiastic and committed to the healthy development of young girls. New coaches need to attend a one-time training on August 29th and are provided detailed lesson plans.? Each Girls on the Run site meets twice a week for 75 minutes during the ten week program.?
?
Girls on the Run is an after school program for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls that combines physical activity, adult mentors, and a curriculum that has been proven to improve participants self-esteem and body image.
?
Our goal is to empower all girls to:
????????? Have a strong sense of identity ????????? Give and receive support from a group ????????? Stand up for themselves in a healthy manner ????????? Have a healthy body image ????????? Understand the importance of their community ????????? Complete a 5k run/walk event ?
